Early College Entrance Exam Registration

IMPORTANT UPDATE!

City Colleges of Chicago has changed it's retake policy for the Read to Write (English) Exam to ONCE A SEMESTER instead of ONCE A YEAR. Therefore, if your student is currently a freshman and would like to try to take the exam, students will have the opportunity to take the exam once again in the Fall semester of their sophomore year. It is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED that students take the Read to Write (RTW) English exam during the make-up testing day if they are interested in participating in the Early College program so they will have multiple attempts to pass the exam.

As a reminder, here are some resources for preparing for the exams.

Read to Write Placement Exam (English Eligibility)

Time: Approximately 90 minutes (2.5 hours max)

Retake Policy: Students are able to take the exam ONCE A SEMESTER.

Students will respond to brief questions to help us better understand your academic, demographic, and personal background. The test will consist of the following components

  • You will be provided with a short passage to read.
  • Based on this passage, you will answer five reading comprehension questions.
  • Next, you will write an essay in response to this passage.
  • Finally, based on the provided course descriptions, you will write a short paragraph explaining the English course you believe is a good fit for you.

There are no online preparation modules for the Read to Write placement exam but the attached guide has been provided by City Colleges: https://goo.gl/Pi3Gzh

ALEKS Math Exam (MathEligibility)

Time: Approximately 90 minutes (no time limit)

Retake Policy: Students are able to take the exam up to FIVE TIMES IN A YEAR.

The ALEKS Placement Assessment covers material from Basic Math through Pre-Calculus and will take approximately 90 minutes to complete. After the assessment, a targeted Prep and Learning Module is available for you to review and learn material, and to improve placement and eventual course outcomes.
